Earthquakes before 2010
Contrary to popular belief, Canterbury in general and Christchurch in particular have had their fair share of earthquakes. The Christchurch Cathedral spire was toppled, and even before it was built the Anglicans were warned about the foolishness of building in stone rather than wood.
